Commonly known as a tummy tuck, an abdominoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin or fat from the middle and lower abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.
No Small Surgery
Contrary to popular belief, it is a major surgery performed under general anaesthesia and is not recommended for everyone who wants to lose a few inches around the waist. It is only advisable for patients who have experienced drastic weight loss, and suffer from loose skin around the abdomen.
It may also be considered after multiple pregnancies to treat distended stomach muscles and skin.
Types of Abdominoplasty
Depending on the extent of surgery required, an abdominoplasty can be classified into:
- Complete: Surgery takes 1 to 5 hours
- Partial (or mini-tuck): Surgery can take up to 2 hours
Most Abdominoplasties require a 2-day hospital stay.
At Motherhood Hospitals, we look at each case on an individual basis, and consider your medical history and psychological needs before recommending a procedure.
