Bilateral Endometriotic Cyst Treatment

Bilateral Endometriotic Cyst, also known as the chocolate cyst is a sac or pouch growing on the ovary that contains fluids or semi-solid material. In simple terms, it is a blood-filled cyst found in the ovaries. Endometriotic cyst affects a large number of women at some point of time and requires medical intervention. We at Motherhood are well adept at the diagnosis and treatment of Endometriotic Cyst.

How does it form?

Endometriotic Cyst develops when tissues from the inside surface of the uterus (endometriotic tissues) grow abnormally and attach to the ovaries. Stimulation by menstrual hormones results in further multiplication of cysts. Gradually, the unclotted blood gets collected in these sacs and starts irritating the surrounding tissues.

Symptoms of Endometriotic Cyst:

  • Abdominal cramps during the menstrual cycle.
  • Abnormal bleeding.
  • Dark colored vaginal discharge.
  • Excessive pain during periods.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse.
  • Pain while urinating or emptying the bowels.

Diagnosis:

If you suffer from the above symptoms, diagnostic tests are done for endometriosis. Motherhood’s well-trained doctors ensure a smooth diagnostic process for endometriosis.

  • An ultrasound scan is done if the doctor suspects a cyst during a pelvic exam or if you have the above symptoms signaling to unexplained infertility.
  • A needle biopsy is then done to determine the type of cyst and proceed with the treatment.

Once the endometriotic cyst is diagnosed, the treatment is done based on various factors.

Treatment:

The choice of treatment depends on various factors like age, symptoms, whether one or both ovaries are affected or whether you want to have children or not. If the cyst does not produce any symptoms, the doctor may even suggest a ‘wait and watch’ approach until the symptoms start to show. Common treatment methods used to treat endometriotic cysts are:

  • Over the counter pain medications can be used for temporary relief.
  • Medications like birth control pills are also prescribed to inhibit the growth of cysts.
  • Hormonal therapy: it is used to regulate the hormonal changes taking place in the body. This helps in relieving pain and slows down the tissue growth.
  • Surgical procedures for treatment are done when the pain is severe and other methods of treatment do not work. Laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgery is done to remove the cysts.
  • In extreme cases, when other methods of treatment do not work, a hysterectomy might be required. During a total hysterectomy, the doctor will remove the uterus and cervix along with ovaries. This is only done when other methods of treatment fail to work.

Motherhood provides the best endometriotic cyst treatment. Our team of highly qualified doctors and nurses provide you with the best treatment with utmost care.
