Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with clinicians to design the newborn delivery plan; administers medication, induces labour, monitors fetal heart rate, and assists with epidural injections.

  • Reviews the doctorโ€™s notes and drug charts and acts accordingly.

  • Prepares nursing care plans and provides effective bedside nursing care.

  • Experienced and efficient in handling neonates and new mothers; capable of CTG interpretation.

  • Competently manages the nurseโ€“patient ratio.

  • Ensures nurses are competent and capable of handling the tasks assigned to them.

  • Ensures nurses follow protocols without exception.

  • Assigns duties ensuring the right mix of experience and skill (senior and junior staff) in each shift.

  • Competently handles all equipment and gadgets used in patient care; ensures the team is trained in their usage and that equipment is serviceable and readily available.

  • Adheres to infection control practices and ensures hygiene and sterility of personnel, equipment, and the environment.

  • Maintains records, reports, and registers as per organizational standards.

  • Accurately captures data, ensures documentation is complete and correct, and tracks Nursing Quality Indicators while reporting accurately.

  • Maintains accurate records of all procedures, including the birth register, stillbirth records, incidents, and fetus disposal records.
