Frequent urination during menstruation is a common but often overlooked symptom that can result from hormonal fluctuations, uterine pressure on the bladder, inflammation, or pelvic floor muscle tension. As estrogen and progesterone levels shift during the menstrual cycle, increased blood flow and swelling in pelvic tissues can irritate the bladder, leading to frequent urges to urinate. While this is usually temporary, conditions such as urinary tract infections or interstitial cystitis should be ruled out if symptoms persist. Dr. Wing Commander Sushil D. Garud (Retd), Consultant Laparoscopic and Uro-gynaecology Surgeon at Motherhood Hospital, Kharadi, Pune, explains that maintaining hydration and pelvic health can help manage the condition effectively.
