Cervical cancer often develops silently without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, making regular screening essential for timely detection and prevention. The disease is primarily caused by persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), and early changes can be identified through Pap smear and HPV tests before progressing into cancer. Routine screening, vaccination, and awareness are key to reducing risks and improving outcomes. Dr Padma Shrivastava, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Motherhood Hospital, Lullanagar, emphasizes that women should not wait for symptoms, as early screening and preventive care play a vital role in protecting women’s health and ensuring better treatment success.
