General Gynecology

It is quite important for women to pay attention to their reproductive health. It is also said that a happy vagina makes a happy woman! Therefore, it is vital to maintaining the ecosystem down there.

Thanks to a healthy combination of bacteria and the perfectly poised pH levels that discourage the harmful microbes from growing. But this combination can be easily tampered by unhealthy hygiene practices, infections, medical conditions, and certain medications.

Therefore, while maintaining those healthy habits, you need to get yourself regularly checked by a good gynaecologist for the sake of your reproductive health.

Menstrual disordes

Menstrual disorders are problems that affect a woman’s normal menstrual cycle. They include painful cramps during bleeding, abnormally heavy bleeding, or not having any bleeding.

Menstruation occurs during the years between puberty and menopause. Menstruation, also called a “period,” is the monthly flow of blood from the uterus through the cervix and out through the vagina.

Menstrual disorders include:

  • Painful cramps (Dysmenorrhea) during menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea is caused by menstruation itself. Secondary dysmenorrhea is triggered by another condition, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
  • Heavy bleeding (Menorrhagia) includes prolonged menstrual periods or excessive bleeding.
  • Absence of menstruation (Amenorrhea). Primary amenorrhea is considered when a girl does not begin to menstruate by the age of 16. Secondary amenorrhea occurs when periods that were previously regular stop for at least 3 months.
  • Light or infrequent menstruation (Oligomenorrhea) refers to menstrual periods that occur more than 35 days apart. It usually is not a cause for concern, except if periods occur more than 3 months apart.

Menopause

A natural biological process, menopause marks the end of menstruation. Menopause basically marks the end of the reproductive phase of the woman’s body as the reproductive hormones decline naturally. This occurs in women who fall in the 40-50 years age group and is diagnosed when she has not had a menstrual period for 12 months.

Pelvic Floor Issues

Being a woman is not easy, along with the responsibility of looking after the family comes the responsibility of extending the family too. Childbirth is a natural phenomenon and a wonderful experience also but with it comes an array of changes in the female body which at times become hard to handle.

One such change is the change in the pelvic floor. Of course, pregnancy and childbirth are one of the leading causes of pelvic floor disorder or pelvic floor dysfunction, but there are many other causes of it too. Give it a read!

Contraception

If it is worth talking about contraception, because this is not he only way to Family planning but also protect from unwanted pregnancy and abortion.

It is important to have open and honest discussions about sex, relationships and contraceptives. 95-96% population of India have lack of contraception and if 5% have knowledge but don’t want to discuss how safe it is.

Some of the contraceptive methods give extended protection against STI (Sexually transmitted infections ). Contraceptive education plays a very important role in safe adolescent sexual behavior.

Gynecology Cancer

Precancerous conditions of the cervix and early cervical cancers are changes to cervical cells that develop into cancer. This condition is not referred to as cancer. However, if left untreated for an extended period, these abnormal changes may cause cervical cancer.

Usually, it develops in an area called the transformation zone where columnar cells get transformed into squamous cells. This process makes the cells more sensitive to the effect of the HPV.

Most women treated for precancerous cervical conditions have an excellent result. It is difficult to predict which one will become invasive cervical cancer, so specialists recommend to treat them as soon as they are being diagnosed.

MTP

Abortion became legal in India in 1971 under certain circumstances. The bill, “Medical Termination and Pregnancy Act” was passed by the parliament keeping in mind the progress the medical science had in the field to make the abortions safe and its side effects not life-threatening.

The medical termination of pregnancy can only be done (by law) if there is:

  • A possible health risk to the physical/mental condition of the mother
  • A potential risk to the health of the growing foetus
  • If a woman gets pregnant as a result of rape
  • Failure of contraception

While the abortion laws differ from country to country, in India, it can be performed on certain circumstances until 20 weeks of pregnancy. But there are few exceptional cases, where the court may allow a termination post 20 weeks.

Gynaec Surgeries

Motherhood Hospital, is a centre of excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery. We caters to all gynecological conditions, offering the best minimally invasive option for all using the latest technology. With the advancements in technology and training, many surgeries can now be performed using small incisions requiring only a few stitches, which in turn reduces trauma caused to the body. We provide our expertise on a wide array of gynecological needs that require medical intervention through surgery.

Women of different age groups sometimes suffer from pelvic or lower abdominal pain that maybe steady or occur from time to time, abnormal bleeding or extremely heavy flow. These maybe symptoms that are indicating internal problems like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, cysts or prolapse. After thorough diagnosis, your gynaecologist will suggest the required treatment options like fibroid or cyst removal and in certain cases uterus removal as well. The treatment is suggested by specialists after thorough understanding of your condition, keeping in mind what is best for your health and recovery

Family Planning

Types of Family Planning

  • Barrier methods, which prevent pregnancy by keeping the sperm from reaching the egg.
  • Hormonal methods, which prevent the woman’s ovary from releasing an egg, make it harder for the sperm to reach the egg, and keep the lining of the womb from supporting a pregnancy.
  • IUDs, which prevent the man’s sperm from fertilizing the woman’s egg.
  • Natural methods, which help a woman know when she is fertile, so that she can avoid having sex at that time.
  • Permanent methods. These are operations which make it impossible for a man or a woman to have any children.
