Overview

Dr. Madhurima Vidyarthi is Senior Consultant Diabetologist and Endocrinologist in Motherhood Hospital, Kolkata.  where she manages patients with acute diabetic emergencies, diabetic foot problems, antenatal diabetes and other complications of diabetes. She assess and manages perioperative glycaemia in patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. She also manages common endocrine problems and lipid disorders. Dr. Vidyarthi concentrates largely on antenatal conditions and fertility issues, including diabetes and thyroid disorders in subfertility and pregnancy. She also continues to offer care for diabetes and thyroid issues throughout pregnancy up till delivery and even afterwards as required. In this group of patients, she deals with diabetic women wishing to conceive as well as those who develop gestational diabetes. She runs regular outpatient clinics, dealing with diabetes and endocrine-related issues and general medical problems as required.

  1. Complex diabetes clinics – hospital based specialist clinics reviewing new and follow up patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. 
  2. Antenatal Diabetes clinics - specialist clinics dealing with diabetes in pregnancy, including gestational diabetes 
  3. Lipid Clinics – tertiary referral lipid clinic dealing with patients with complex lipid problems, including familial hypercholesterolaemia 
  4. Morbid Obesity clinics – multi-disciplinary clinics dealing with medical and surgical management of morbidly obese patient, including bariatric surgery patients 
  5. Management of acute diabetes emergencies – wide experience in the management of patients with acute diabetic emergencies (diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic syndrome, hypoglycaemia)
  6. Management of diabetic foot problems – wide experience of in-patient and out patient management of diabetic patients with foot ulceration and Charcot Arthropathy.

  1. Specialist and routine endocrine clinics dealing with pituitary, adrenal, gonadal, thyroid and parathyroid patients. 
  2. In-patient management of patients with pituitary problems – including pre and post-operative management of patients with pituitary tumours and assessment for pituitary replacement.
  3. Assessment and management of patients with adrenal conditions, including pre-operative preparation of patients with phaeochromocytoma and Conn’s syndrome.
  4. Assessment and management of patients with carcinoid syndrome and disorders of calcium homeostasis.
  5. Fully trained in specialised dynamic endocrine testing – having worked at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, I have had wide exposure to specialised tests in the Barts programmed investigations unit.
