FAQs

You can usually try to conceive again after one or two normal menstrual cycles, once your body and emotions have had time to recover. However, the timing can vary depending on how far along you were and your overall health. It’s best to check with your doctor before trying again, to ensure your body is ready and any underlying issues are addressed.

It’s normal to have bleeding after delivery, but if it becomes too heavy (soaking pads within an hour or passing large clots) you should seek medical help immediately. This could be a sign of postpartum haemorrhage.

To manage normal bleeding, rest as much as possible, stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity. Your doctor may prescribe medication or check for conditions like infection or retained tissue if bleeding continues.

These are the three stages of postpartum bleeding (lochia):

  • Lochia Rubra: This is the first stage, lasting a few days after birth. It’s bright red and similar to a heavy period.
  • Lochia Serosa: This stage starts around the 4th to 10th day. The discharge becomes lighter and pinkish-brown.
  • Lochia Alba: This is the final stage and can last up to 6 weeks. It’s whitish or yellow and much lighter in flow.

Each stage shows your body’s normal healing process after delivery.

The exact cause isn’t fully known, but certain factors can increase your risk, such as:

  • A family history of ovarian or breast cancer
  • BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations
  • Never having been pregnant
  • Early menstruation or late menopause
  • Chronic inflammation of the reproductive organs

Regular check-ups and discussing your family history with your doctor can help with early detection.

After a chemical pregnancy, your doctor may check your hormone levels and perform an ultrasound to confirm everything has cleared naturally. Physically, most women recover quickly, and your next period may come within 4 to 6 weeks.

Treatment depends on your symptoms and plans for future pregnancy. Small cysts may only need regular monitoring, while painful or large ones might require hormonal medication or laparoscopic surgery to remove them. Your doctor will recommend the best approach to relieve pain, preserve fertility and prevent recurrence.
