Thyroid imbalance can affect conception by disrupting normal hormone levels that regulate ovulation and menstrual cycles, but it does not prevent the possibility of parenthood when properly managed. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can interfere with reproductive hormones, leading to irregular periods, anovulation or difficulty conceiving, and may also increase the risk of pregnancy complications if uncorrected. Early diagnosis through hormone testing and tailored treatment can restore balance and improve the chances of pregnancy. Dr Rashmi N, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Motherhood Hospitals, Bangalore, explains that with appropriate medical support and monitoring, most women with thyroid disorders can successfully achieve parenthood and have healthy pregnancies.
