On World Ovarian Cancer Day 2026, doctors are raising awareness about how ovarian cancer symptoms are often mistaken for common digestive issues like acidity, bloating, gas, and indigestion. According to Dr. Nirmala M, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist & Fertility Specialist at Motherhood Hospitals, early signs such as abdominal fullness, pelvic heaviness, fatigue, altered bowel habits, backache, and gradual abdominal enlargement are frequently ignored or treated as gastric problems. Experts warn that persistent symptoms lasting more than two to three weeks should not be overlooked, as delayed diagnosis can allow ovarian cancer to progress silently. Doctors also stress that women above 40, those with PCOS, endometriosis, or a family history of breast or ovarian cancer should remain especially alert to ongoing digestive discomfort and unexplained bloating.
