The Times of India featured Dr Tushar Parikh, Senior Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician at Motherhood Hospital, Kharadi, Pune, discussing choking and foreign body risks in young children. Dr Parikh explains that toddlers have smaller airways, developing swallowing coordination and a natural tendency to put objects in their mouths, which increases choking risk. He highlights common hazards such as nuts, small toy parts, beads, buttons, magnets and button batteries. Dr Parikh also advises parents to watch for sudden coughing, noisy breathing or persistent wheezing and to avoid giving food, water or attempting blind removal when choking is suspected.
