Pregnant women in Bengaluru are increasingly exploring water births as a natural alternative to conventional delivery methods, with several hospitals introducing dedicated facilities for the practice in recent years. Doctors say awareness around low-intervention childbirth and the desire to avoid unnecessary C-sections are encouraging more mothers-to-be to consider water births. Dr. Sireesha Reddy, Senior Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Motherhood Hospitals, noted that many women are now learning about water births through online information and shared patient experiences, making the option more relatable and accessible. Experts explain that warm water during labour can help reduce pain, improve relaxation, support easier movement, and lower the need for interventions such as episiotomy. However, doctors caution that water births are suitable only for carefully selected low-risk pregnancies and require strict monitoring of hygiene and water quality to ensure maternal and newborn safety.
