A recent Indian Express health feature highlighted the decline in exclusive breastfeeding rates in India, despite improved institutional deliveries. Dr. Sanju Sidaraddi, Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist at Motherhood Hospitals, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, explained that exclusive breastfeeding supports infant immunity, gut health, growth, and protection against infections, while misinformation, painful latching, low milk supply concerns, early formula introduction, workplace challenges, and lack of support can make breastfeeding difficult for new mothers.
