The rising frequency of preterm deliveries in Pune and across India is prompting hospitals to strengthen neonatal care systems to support fragile newborns. Babies born too early often face breathing difficulties, feeding challenges and a higher risk of infections, requiring advanced NICU care, ventilator support and specialised nursing. Hospitals are focusing on practices such as Kangaroo Mother Care, better thermal regulation and improved follow up after discharge to enhance survival and long term outcomes. Dr Tushar Parikh, Senior Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician at Motherhood Hospital, Kharadi, highlights the need for robust neonatal infrastructure to manage the growing number of premature births.
