Treating Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension

Inhaled nitric oxide therapy is a specialised treatment used for certain newborns with persistent pulmonary hypertension, a condition where blood vessels in the lungs don’t relax as expected after birth. PPHN treatment using this approach helps improve oxygen levels by relaxing these blood vessels directly, giving a baby’s lungs a better chance to function effectively while other treatment continues. Response to treatment is closely tracked through repeated blood gas measurements and oxygen saturation readings throughout the treatment period.
