Lower Genital Tract Dysplasia
Lower genital tract dysplasia is a condition wherein a woman will have abnormalities in the lower section of her reproductive system including the vagina, vulva and cervix. These abnormalities are noted as precancerous lesions or intraepithelial neoplasia.
Cervical dysplasia: The abnormal change on the surface of the cervix (the lower part of the uterus connecting to the vagina) is medically termed cervical dysplasia.
Pap Smear and HPV Testing: How Abnormal Cells Are Found
Lower genital tract dysplasia treatment addresses abnormal cell changes on the cervix, most often detected through routine screening rather than symptoms, since this condition rarely causes noticeable signs on its own. Vaginal dysplasia treatment covers similar cell changes found elsewhere in the lower genital tract, and both are generally caught early through regular screening intervals. Most cases are picked up through a routine Pap smear or HPV test, well before any symptoms would ever appear on their own.
